Patience and Transformation
We’ve come to expect things in life to occur right away, at our earliest convenience. Instant gratification.
Before the 1960’s some of the garbage that was disposed ended up in our beautiful ocean. Luckily, we’ve since evolved to know and do better. The splendid array of colored pieces dispersed among the seashells and sand on some shores, are a result of that garbage.
Glass that was once tossed and tumbled over many years. Weathered and worn, transformed into pieces, less sharp, more rounded, appealing. In some cases as long as 15 plus years for that change to occur.
What if we look at the storms in our lives differently. What if we see it, less as something that is happening to us and more as something meant to shape us differently. Giving time and having patience for that transformation, to then reveal a less sharp, more radiant version of ourselves.
Strength in community
REPRESENTATION MATTERS
We’ve heard it time and time again. Representation matters.
When you’re out there navigating spaces and oftentimes no one looks familiar, there’s a struggle, a pause, a gripping, a need to protect and guard oneself. It’s like preparing for battle where no one else recognizes the fight, so the armor is only ours to bear.
The opposite of course is true when another kindred spirit shows up in close proximity and immediately a connection is felt. A knowing nod, a kind smile and an encouraging gaze that lets you know, it’s going to be okay.
Yoga means to yoke, to unite, to experience that which brings you to reality. When there is no representation, it’s hard to define reality or even aspire and see yourself reflected in universal beauty and humanness.
But when representation shows up, in all its joy, laughter and knowing, it’s hard to deny the strength one can find and the power in that community.
